Another reason to hate car dealers.

I'm the idiot for not catching this. My son's credit sucks from issues at college so I had to buy the truck he needed for his job. He pays me monthly.
He found a used truck online on the dealer's website. The advertisement and the purchase order said 2019 certified pre-owned Toyota Tacoma SR5.
We negotiated and made the deal. Stupidly I did not scrutinize the vehicle.
After a few months the boy was buying parts for the truck and notified me that the local Toyota dealer said it was the SR trim level and not SR5.
After I confirmed this I notified the selling dealership. At first they blamed the advertisers which turned out to be them. They denied any wrong doing.
I searched online and found the price difference to be $1900. I confronted them with this and they said the difference for them at auction is $200. They asked me when would I like to come in for my $200 check.
I refused that ridiculous amount and said I would be back in touch.
I contacted a consumer advocacy group in Virginia dealing with cars. I also contacted the VA attorney general's office.
Within a few days a very apologetic General Manager was calling me trying to settle this dispute. Today I received a $1900 check from the dealer.
Again, I'm the idiot for letting this happen. Lesson learned. Car dealers suck. Always be on your guard. Never give up when you're in the right. That's what I told the boy.

I'd imagine all the damn badging they put on Toyota trucks are almost as easy to see as what color the paint is. The badging really is over the top.
Really doesn't matter, there are very few honest used car sales folks that I have run across. Not as blatant as the OP's problem, but they all want to make a buck no matter how they do it. Used to deal with alot of the sales folks in the Montgomery Autopark, I think there was one salesman out of dozens that I would have trusted.

When my Mrs. was about ready to sign the papers when she bought a brand new Escort back in 93, she noticed that the price was different than that negotiated. She shoved the contract back at the salesman, explained the problem. They hemmed and hawed about the other rice only being available to members of veteran's organizations, not active military. She got up to walk and told him to file the contract where the sun don't shine. Sales manager overheard. She ended up getting the discount.

Still have it, not running, but still have it.

Who is good around here for a full rework, including body work?

Again, I fupped duck. The point is once I brought their mistake to their attention instead of doing the right thing they tried to buy me off like it was a deal. It's amazing how helpful and pleasant they get with an inquiry from attorney general's office.

Their resistance prior to that inquiry also tells you what they think of their customers and return business.

Caveat emptor~ "Let the buyer beware".

I hate that though. Any business that hoses the customers should go bankrupt within a year of opening their doors, and yet these villains flourish.

I don't want to beware. I want to go to someone and say, "Hey fix this thing" or "Hey sell me this thing" and that's that. I don't want to have to call and nag them - "Hey when will this thing be fixed?" - and I don't want to have to raise hell with them because the thing they sold me was garbage. I don't want them jacking me up to the point that I almost freaking euthanize my dog (I'm still not over that). I just want them to do what they say they'll do.
