Another Tesla Model S Caught Fire After A Crash In Mexico

When a Tesla Model S caught fire after crashing into some road debris in Washington State earlier this month, company officials stressed that it was the first and only known Model S fire on a public road. But after a crash in Mexico, we can add one more to that list.P

The crash occurred in the Yucatán city of Mérida. In news first broken in the English-speaking world by Axis of Oversteer this weekend, Mexican newspaper Progreso Hoy reported on Oct. 18 that the Tesla sped into a roundabout, struck a wall and then crashed into another wall in a private residence before hitting a tree. The driver, whom Diario de Yucatán also reports was under the influence of alcohol, fled the scene.

As for the drunk driver, I'll refrain from comment.

As for the car and its technology/architecture, although I'm stodgy and still prefer my vehicles to be equipped with internal combustion engines, I doubt that there is some exploding-Pinto thing here (and by the way I think the Pinto thing was blown up out of all proportion). It's worthy of note that for many decades, submarines full of people and much more risky batteries did their jobs very well indeed, with remarkably few incidents directly related to the batteries (though there were some, mostly in cases of battle damage).

And kudos to the engineers who designed a vehicle and frame which is light and yet protected the driver in a series of serious impacts.

Exploding Pintos = 1970's Yellow Journalism

rear end most any car with a dump truck and it will explode ... like NBC and exploding Chevy PU's

... I would jump at the chance to purchase a Tesla, if they were cheaper ....

as it was stated in the article - through a concrete wall and striking a tree and the driver walks away

I survived my 1973 - 83 Pinto. It was a decent car for getting around.

That is all.:buddies:
