Hey folks, still alive...and am improving.

A large part of me being scarce, I'm an alcoholic.

I spent the past week in Medstar St. Mary;s Hospital in their detox prgram.
I think it went real well. All the Drs., nurses and other folks working the hall where I had a room were friendly, courteous and repected why I was there.
All the talk and the meds did me a world of good.

I am now tryingto build a support system to keep me from drinking again, reinforcing my desire not to do so any more.
I am starting an out patient prgram at Pyramid on St. Andrews Church Rd. the 1st week of April.
I'd also like to know if there is a less religious alternative to AA locally, even a small "coffee club"
of recovering alcoholics with whom I could have conversations.

Words of encouragement from you folks would help, too.

Thanks - Steven

You’re making progress! AA groups are a great place to start. They’re not all the same. As long as you keep trying the ones you hear about, you’ll be okay. You’ll find the one that fits you best and you’ll get comfortable. You aren’t alone. The first “A” in AA can you make you feel that way. It’s going to take time and it isn’t easy. You’re trying to break a habit that was as normal as breathing. No easy feat. One day at a time. I wish you all the best.
