b23hqb, Paterno didn't smoke, I don't think ever in his life, definitely NOT the last 40 years of his life.

Like mentioned, Central PA is a high Radon area and it causes Lung Cancer.

As well, people do get lung cancer without ever smoking, smoking does increase you chances of getting it greatly, but there will always be a small percentage of unlucky people that will get lung cancer without ever touching a cigarette in their life.

I don't know. Can you get cancer from smoking the poles of little kids. There was definitely a lot of that kind of smoking going on in the locker room.
