My sister is having a real problem with her computer. It's running real slow, taking forever to boot-up, sometimes she loses audio, sometimes it totally freezes and she can't even re-boot it correctly.

I had her run quite a few Spyware programs and she still seems to be having the problem.

Any ideas to what the problem might be will be greatly appreciated!

Has she run a disc defrag? Delete all temp files, delete all cookies? If you go to "START" "RUN" type in "MSCONFIG" click on the "START UP" tab, uncheck any programs she doesn't need.

I'm waiting for her to give me a ring back. I think she mentioned that, but I wanna be sure. Thanks, Mike!

When all fails - I run a super program called "EasyClean." It cleans out your registry (that will cause slow closing and booting), temporary files, cookies, etc. (all in one small program).

Here is their brief write-up:

EasyCleaner is a small program which searches the Windows registry for entries that are pointing nowhere. EasyCleaner also lets you delete all kinds of unnecessary files such as temps and backups. You can search for duplicate files and you can view some interesting info about your disk space usage! You are also able to manage startup programs, invalid shortcuts and add/remove software list.

DON'T PLAY WITH THE "duplicate files" OPTION since many programs install outside the DLL subdirectory. I stick to "REGISTRY" and "UNNECESSARY FILES" and leave the rest alone (can cause toooo many problems).

It is free.

Here is the download: http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm

Let me know if it helps.

That's something that I never heard of, so I know that she didn't do that. :yay:

Always, the first step with any computer issues is to go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com to make sure your OS is current.

If that doesn't help, I like going backwards. If you're using Windows XP, go to Start -> Help and Support -> Performance and Maintenance, and run System Restore. It will guide you through recent changes. Go back to the last date before your system started running slowly.
