Are there any lawyers or paralegals out there or can someone refer someone who is reasonably priced who would possibly specialize in adult adoption?

I may have the perfect lawyer for you who is very reasonable. He handled a family matter relating to adoption/visitation for me... was a case of first impression in MD and went all all the way to the Court of Special Appeals. I would highly recommend him. PM me and I'll give you more info..dont feel comfortable posting his info here.

I had a friend that did that - adopted an adult. She was a lesbian and the adoptee was her lover. It was some inheritance tax/will issue and she couldn't marry her, so she adopted her.

That's a true story. :yay:

you can adopt an adult....ex father-in-law had to adopt his son(he has down syndrome) after he turned 18....that way he could keep his personal and financial matters out of the hands of the state

You will not believe the feedback I have gotten in regard to this. I will possibly post it at a later date as a topic of discussion. It is absurd! I do not want to post it here because that black toothed egg donor still has family that live in CC.

I recommend Larry Cumberland. He's with Cumberland & Erly. His phone is 410-535-5300. If he does not personally handle that specialty he'll refer you to a lawyer who does.

Its a term of endearment....NOT!

See my post for "What do you think of this" I have been told (by Cumberland & Erly) that I cant adopt my stepson even when he is 18 because of this very law.

However, I have talked to 3 other attorneys since then that say that is not true and based on the fact that no contact has been made w/ my son in 6 years and that he wants this done, it does not matter and they would be surprised if we walked away without a win. One even had a case a few months ago where it was the same situation but the child was too young to express what he/she wanted and he won.

That was from Joann Wood's office btw. He said he handles most of these cases. I believe we are going to hire him. I hope he is right, I always am afraid that lawyers are telling me what I want to hear.
