Good advice, Tastycakes. I 'did my time' as a substitute, never to return. I found that staying in the same school, where I got to know the students and they got to know me, helped a little bit. It definitely made me appreciate my own children more, too. If at all possible, get the lesson plan ahead of time, so you can be prepared for the day. Also, always have activities you can use if you have extra time/the lesson plan doesn't work. I had rewards (stickers/stamps/candy) for elementary students. I didn't always give them out, but as the students got to know me, they knew there was a chance they would be rewarded at the end of the day. And start each day anew, so that even the students who gave you a hard time one day have a chance to improve the next time. Good luck. Bless you.
