Any suggestions?

So I have a chihuahua who's about 8 months old, and a couple months ago he started not to squat when he pees and just cocks his leg. Well now he gets pee ALL over his stomach and his front legs. It's disgusting! I have to bathe him like everyday and he gets pee on the couch and blankets from his stomach. Has anybody else had problems like this before? And ideas on how to fix it? TIA

Is he neutered? If not neuter him. That should help. If you neuter before they start to lift their leg, they often never lift their leg.

My Chi alternates squatting and lifting his leg. He's never had an accident on himself. I'm not sure how you'd correct that - it sounds like it is his stance or something. Good luck with that! :yay:

No he isn't neutered but I am planning on doing that soon. Hopefully that will help cause I don't know of what else to do!

I think it has a lot to do with his stance. I'm not sure if all chi's are like this but his chest seems to be a lot lower then his lower stomach.. so it's right in the path of his urine :( Guess I'll have to fatten him up so his stomach will hang lower! haha.

Have you tried demonstrating the proper stance for him?

my mini poodle male has ALWAYS raised his leg to pee then steps in it with his rear foot everytime he walks away. I think Chihuahua's are so precious and hope to get one one day. There was a lady at the nursing home this evening that had brought in her Chi and her pot bellied pig to visit with the residents. She had them both dressed and had pink sunglasses on them both. So precious!

I could deal with him stepping in it, but getting it all over his belly is driving me nuts! I love him to death but it's hard to snuggle with him when he smells like pee! I guess I can't complain too much because he was the WORST to potty train so at least he doesn't go in the house!

Consider yourself lucky then cause I heard Chi's are hard to potty train.:howdy:

If you can't stop him from peeing on his belly get some baby wipes and clean him up quick before it dries. Should help with the smell too.

Whoever told you Chi's were hard is exactly right! Everyone and every website I saw said not to spank them or yell at them because it would make them mad and have more "accidents" in the house! His crate and Beggin Strips finally did the trick! :) I've been just wiping his belly off everytime he comes in, I guess that's what I'll have to keep doing!
