Mardi Gras Casino & Resort is in west Virginia. They have an active groupon to get cheap rooms.

In My Opinion
Been to the one in Charles Town a few times.
Watch some horses, the go down stairs and throw some change at the machines.
Now if you want to take an extended trip, the Casino in Cherokee SC is great, its a Harrahs.

Went to Charles Town a month or so ago, I couldn't stand the smoke. There are sections of slots that is "no smoking" but the whole place smelled like a dirty ash tray, JMO

Yuck.. Thanks!

We've never been to Harrington Harbor or Dover so that will be next on our list. Went to Ocean Downs 2 weeks ago and it's not bad if you just want to play slots, has some "video" poker and roulette as well.

WV has 4 casinos and I have visited each one. Mountaineer and Wheeling Island are on the western side of the state, Charleston in the southwest corner and Hollywood in Charles Town.

My personal preference is Charles Town. Almost 5000 slots. They have 2 buffets now. The one I like overlooks the horse track and has a great buffet on Saturday nights. Make reservations for 7pm dinner and post time for the horses is usually 7:15. They have 5 inch tv screens on each table so you can watch local tv while eating and watching (and betting on the horses). They even have a betting booth in the buffet.

Of course, if you want to take a ride to western WV, you also have 2 casinos in the vicinity of Pittsburgh, PA. One is downtown next to Heinz Field called "The Rivers." The other is located in Washington, PA (about 20 minutes south of Pittsburgh on I-79) and is called "The Meadows."

From Mountaineer, you are about 45 minutes from Pittsburgh. From Wheeling Island about an hour.

My wife and I spent 5 hours at The Rivers this past Saturday night. Walked in with 200 dollars and walked out with 800...

No matter which casino you go to, make sure you pick up a player's card. Not only will you get perks each month (discounted hotel room, free slot play, discounted buffet prices, etc), but they will track your winnings/losings and can provide you with a statement for income taxes.
