Anyone know anything about Silverwood Farms Apts?

Hello! I've been doing a bit of research on apts and the area. I will be moving to PF (from NY) with my husband in Aug. Silverwood Farms Apts seems like the only complex in the whole area. I'm pretty sure this is where we will be moving to, so I am just wondering if it is nice, and apts are clean and well maintained?

Thanks a bunch!

You may want someone you know in the area to drive around in the middle of the afternoon, and then again at night.

I THINK I lived there about 10 years ago. A coworker and I got scammed by the gal at the rental office. She told us that mostly couples/retirees lived there. We met her mid-morning to do a tour and so on.

We liked the place okay; more so it was in my roommate's and my budget at the time. We signed a lease and set a move in date.

Soon we found out the place was a little more "ghetto" than we thought. Back then, I worked half days at one job in the middle of the week and would come into the complex to find the "fellas" on the corner drinking forties.

Then, later still, it was a little more sketchy. I had my intimidating dog there with me and we always had friends over, so it wasn't so scary... But, if you're looking for nice and complacent, you may want someone to look into it.

I don't think we stayed the full term of the year. And, we also had some issues with bugs, if I remember - but we also had a ground floor unit.

Hope this helps.

You could call the sheriffs office and ask how busy they are in that area. They can't give you specifics but if you get the right person on the phone they will say just enough to gve you an "informed" decision. They aren't allowed to tell you where you should or shouldn't live. When I moved to Charles County they kept me from moving to the hoodiest of hoods where I almost moved in. Hope this helps some.

What part of NY you coming from?

I have friends that live in those apts and they are well maintained, they come in and repair anthing that is broken when you report it. Things used to be bad there a while back and it was called "silver hood" but now things are better, they do random apt. checks for anything illeagal and if something is found your stuff will be moved out and be waiting for you on the sidewalk when you get home. My friends like it there.

:yeahthat:

although I haven't heard much about it recently maybe they got most of the bad people out?

At one point in time though that place was a mess.

"Silverhood" is what one of my coworkers told me it was called which was shocking to me for Calvert County who only has one apartment community (at least it was only one when told to me in 2004 before I moved to SoMD).

Also, if they're checking apartments randomly for illegal activity that doesn't sound like a place anyone would WANT to live. JMO and good luck. :flowers:

hmmm...

Does anyone know about any other apts in the area then? It's kind of hard since we're doing most of our searches online. Not much comes up for PF... my husband will be working there, and we wanted to try and live in the same town. Grrr...

That is the only apartment complex in PF..there are a few Section 8 communities that are townhouses and quad but that's about it for apartment type housing.

I'd look around for a rental. And the county (Calvert) isn't that big. You could live in Chesapeake Beach and he'd only be 15 minutes from work. You could also look further south...St. Leonard area is very nice too.

Here's a site you can use..it has a place for "residential rentals."

Perhaps your husband could check with the company he will be working for. A lot of homes in the area are rented by word of mouth.

Welcome..we've lived in Prince Frederick for almost 20 years. I'd be happy to take a look if you see something you like or let you know about an area of the county.
