Anyone know what to do with Old Struts?

I'm talking struts from a 95 Chevy Lumina minivan (*sniff* that we have no more )

They are still "Compressed" and are taking up a good portion of my closet in the guest room. I don't just want to take them to the dump because I don't want them to explode and hurt someone.

Anyone know what to do with them???

claim they have a rust spot that looks like the virgin mary.

Why don't you call a couple of junk yards to see if they could use them or if they can dispose of them for you. :howdy:

They are only "compressed" when they have the weight of your vehicle on them. Take them to the dump.

more helpful, perhaps

Drill a small hole in the lower end to vent the nitrogen and oil. Recommended to do this with a plastic bag (gallon Zip-Loc might be good) with a corner cut out surrounding the lower end. Cut out will allow the gas to escape without ballooning or blowing away the bag, and the bag will keep the gas, oil, and drilling chips from blowing towards your face and eyes. Wear safety glasses, anyway. With a handheld power drill, the bit will tend to walk, so a drill press would be better, but I just did this by hand last week. I used a plastic shopping bag, and it tended to twist itself around the drill bit, that's why I suggest you try a Zip-Loc. Also, do it outside or in your garage or basement, as the oil will be running out. Then throw them in your trash.

Take them to the dump. throw them in the metal recycling bin. Doesn't get any easier than that. They shouldn't even charge you for it.

Or take them to a junk yard, or go to a garage and ask the mechanic what he would do.

Buy a 95 Chevy Lumina minivan with bad struts.

These WERE the BAD (VERY VERY VERY BAD) struts. Hubby replaced them and then 2 weeks later we got into an accident (my very 1st one) and the van was totaled.

They are in REALLY bad shape, so I SERIOUSLY doubt they are reuseable. They just need to be safely disposed of.

I will look into some of the more...erm...practical methods you guys mentioned! Thanks!

In My Opinion
go to a car dealership and ask to test drive a used car.
on the test drive, stop off at your house and put the items in question in the trunk of the dealers car.
take the car back, tell them you dont like it and go on your way.

its now their problem to get rid of them. I do this with bodies when I have to be forced to kill people.

Don't sweat it. The compactor will gobble them up.
