Maybe she should ask Cuomo to raise her states minimum wage to what they really need to survive there, $25. hr.

A typical McDonald's in Denmark has about half the staff they do in the U.S. - so - no one leaning on brooms on slow shifts. They make better use of productivity and automation. If you could dump half your staff, you could pay them more, too.

I hate this idea of paying required and enormous minimums for jobs for a personal reason - it makes it impossible for my mentally disabled son to ever get work. Even for jobs that are just physical labor - he needs constant supervision. No one would pay him a huge salary to do what he is capable of doing.

Something else - I was on a Quora forum, and several people FROM DENMARK chimed in - and prices were different as were exchange rates. For example, one guy from Copenhagen mentioned that a typical Quarter Pounder combo ran from 10 to 11 bucks. About twice what it does here. Other people just Googling came up with more favorable prices. Still others mentioned how difficult it was to compare them when a worker in the U.S. who makes low wages pays zero federal income tax, while everyone in Denmark pays close to half their wage and has very large sales taxes on everyday items. It's especially hard to compare a lower wage Dane who benefits from government funded programs - and a low wage American who is eligible for assistance from Uncle Sam. Such "assistance" is deemed "government subsidizing" and "poverty" in the U.S. - but heralded as great when the same thing is given in Denmark.

Yep ...... you keep 11 of that 22 and pay a huge VAT on Purchases

Not only that the Median Income in the US is higher spread across a huge population where as Demark is about 5 million citizens or less than have the population of NYC [ IIRC is 10 million precovid]

I went to 5 guys the other day and paid dear for a burger, but I could see the meat on it.

That's of course, the first thing that AOC supporters - like "Snopes" - tries to dismiss. That Big Macs cost more.
And evidence varies. Google it, and it might be cheaper. Ask a Dane, and he'll say it's more.

But the difference is still there - Danes get more stuff through their government that people who work at McDonald's get as a consequence of government assistance programs. However, here - it's considered disgraceful that someone can't get by without government assistance but there, government assistance is considered normal - and PRAISED by the left.

Just now did a Trip Advisor review - when prices mentioned, people said it was too expensive for junk or fast food. One person said the equivalent of 32 dollars for two meals and two ice creams. So what's that line from "Road House"? 'Opinions vary'.

After many conversations with foreign exchange students from Nordic countries, it seems to be much more nuanced than “welfare”.

All those countries used to be small in population, homogeneous, and strong on Lutheran ethics, even if not on religion itself.

Their “social construct” was such that everyone HAS to do their darnest best to work hard and NOT demand what they don’t need, and those who REALLY can’t, will live decent lives on government assistance.

Popping out multiple kids by multiple baby daddies to sit in Section 8 projects and sell food stamps for cash, or like AOC said “those who are not willing to work”, is simply inconceivable to them.

Those who would try would be socially stigmatized, pitied, and shamed.

Big difference between them and our large diverse country with huge numbers of welfare fraud that seems to be almost a sport in some communities.

Of course their entire social construct is falling apart with importation of large numbers of savages who have no intention of participation in their social construct, and have completely opposite values and norms. :sshrug:
