Tech geeks always do that, default to hardware and config when most of the tech support calls I receive get resolved by rebooting or turning off CAPSLOCK. One of my clients complained that she was on the phone with "her computer guy" for over an hour inputting port numbers and trying different SMTP/POP settings because she couldn't send and receive email....I resolved her problem by asking her if she was connected to the internet.

Tech people really do know their chit and many of them are legit geniuses, but they don't think like normal people. Which is why Apple came up with that silly touch bar and why web designers thought splash screen homepages were a good idea.
