Aptera 300 mpg Car on CNN

Aptera Motors is a maker of high-efficiency vehicles. Its first product, a three-wheeled two-seater is currently under development. The long-range fuel efficiency of the hybrid model of 130 mpg at 55 mph (0.8 L/100 km at 90 km/h) would make it one of the most fuel-efficient cars in the world. A higher figure of just over 300 mpg is used for shorter (100 mile) trips, where the pre-charged batteries are able to run the hybrid vehicle for approximately the first 60 miles. The Typ-1 accelerates from 0–60 mph (0-97 km/h) in less than 10 seconds with a top speed over 85 mph (137 km/h). The price is US$26.900 for the all-electric "Aptera Local" and US$29.900 for the plug-in hybrid "Aptera Everywhere".

As of May 2008, Aptera Motors has received nearly 2500 refundable deposits for its vehicles. It currently expects to deliver first units to California customers in December 2008 and to fill all reservations by late summer of 2009

well you would save lots of gas running in all electric mode

:smack:

of course your electric bill would probably go up then ...

I know with the Chevy Volt based on the information they gave on charging it, it would cost about $40 to go 1200 miles. I calculated that off my latest Smeco kwh charges.

Each state is a tad different, most consider a 3 wheel vehicle to be a trike, a type of motorcycle, but some states ONLY recognize a trike when the two wheels are in the back, not the front (not sure why)

I saw NBC news showing it off, it looked like the acceleration was good.

If a startyp company of two engineers can do it, why can't a big car company?

I don't think any big car company would bother with something as useless as that.

It would be a much more attractive vehicle if they'd move that ugly dirty bum leaning on it.

Its $29,000 for a souped up golf cart with a Briggs and Stratton engine to charge the battery. Thats why the big companies dont make it.
