Are there any low cost animal service clinics?

Found a kitten (actually it found us) and not only will it need routine vaccinations but it has an an intermittent cough that I'm afraid may need some expensive testing to find out the cause. I don't mind keeping the little guy but I wasn't prepared for more than the typical vaccines and neutering. I hate to drop him off at a shelter, they're so over crowded now but I know if I walk into the vet the bill is going to be more than I can handle right this moment. If anyone knows of a clinic that may treat/diagnose the cough without breaking the bank please let me know.

That is so great that you are willing to keep this kitten! How is it doing? If it is coughing only and no nasal or eye discharge, it could possibly be roundworms. They can migrate up the esophagus and cause coughing (yuck!). A stool sample dropped off at the vet should be able to detect roundworms. Since it is a stray it should probably be checked by the vet anyway.

No other symptons at all. He seems fine otherwise. Called the WellPet Clinic. The vet is away right now but I am going to try and have him checked there when she gets back. Thanks for the info about roundworms. Maybe I get get the fecal test done before the WellPet vet gets back.
