Are we all watching the astronauts coming back home?

The welcoming dolphins were cool!
My husband wondered if they were trained dolphins that were there just in case the pod started to sink and could put a hook on the top to pull it up. I laughed and said they were probably just regular dolphins that happened to show up at the right time. I have heard of dolphins being trained to do tasks "in the wild" but pretty sure it was just a random sighting.

I understand that, but I was wondering what Scott Kelly said was true.

He said that they were never stranded and could have left whenever they wanted.
Is that true?
If they'd taken the emergency pod, the station didn't have a spare for those left behind.

My guess is they were told no.

Kind of a word game on his part.

Dolphins are nosy, which is why they chase the dolphin tour boats and swim around kayakers. Something happens, they go check it out.

They better be very strong dolphins, if you want them to lift the Dragon.

After trunk separation and the deorbit burn are complete, the Crew Dragon capsule weighs approximately 21,200 pounds [9,615 kg].""
