I think will just get some rain and a little wind. Nothing to big. Every time they say oh it's going to be the biggest storm ever and what not nothing happens.

Normally, I'd agree to that, but something about this storm feels different.

Let's hope you're right and I'm not!

How this storm comparing to Irene last year? More rain or stronger wind? If I remember correctly Irene made landfall in New York and look how it affected Maryland. It looks like this storm is making landfall closer to us so..........
The difference is in the path. Irene last year hugged the coast and was a strong catagory 1 as it passed by us in SoMD at its closest along the eastern shore. This storm will swing out wide then hook west and come ashore around southern NJ. If i remember right, when Irene was around southern NJ we were about done with the wind and rain. Since it is moving west after it comes ashore through philly/baltimore, we will end up getting closer to the center but hopefully by that time the storm will have weakened enough that it won't be bad here. also, since we'll be always on the weak side of the storm (west of while it's moving north, south as it's moving west) it will hopefully be only a minor nuisance to us in SoMD, some rain and wind with a few decent gusts. With many of the leaves already turning, the wind should pop those leaves off fairly easily sparing those trees, and Irene last year cleared out the weaker trees already.

I wonder if this storm is going to resemble "Katrina" in the fact that not many people are going to be prepared to take care of themselves thinking it will be no big deal.

State of MD issued State of Emergency expecting the storm to affect this area for at least 48 hours. Maybe someone can post the link to the story on WTOP.

I prefer to prepare and be over-prepared than to not be prepared and be kicking myself after the fact.

This sucks.

I've got 7 projects going on right now, and can't afford to miss time. Looks like I'll be missing class next Tuesday also :tap:

kom526

Sears has them for $799 (Wildewoode).
kom has one for $2000.00

McKay's in Leonardtown is out of bottled water until tomorrow am. Plenty of D batteries, lamp oil and weather/emergency radios on tables to the right of the doors in the True Value in Charlotte Hall.

It is funny that the store shelves empty every time. You would think that people who rush out and buy everything last minute would put it in a box and save it for next time. I have been "Preparing for the storm" today but my preparing is making sure all dishes are washed, laundry washed, and house cleaned.
