Arizona bans all abortions citing 1864 law

The law, which was on the books long before Arizona achieved statehood in 1912, outlaws abortion from the moment of conception, except when necessary to save the life of the mother, and it makes no exceptions for rape or incest. It bans all types of abortions, including medication abortions.

Until now, abortion had been legal in Arizona through 15 weeks of pregnancy. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade nearly two years ago, supporters and opponents of abortion rights in Arizona had been fighting in court over whether the 1864 law, which had sat dormant for decades, could be enforced, or whether it had been effectively neutered by decades of other state laws that regulate and restrict abortion.

Doctors prosecuted under the law could face fines and prison terms of two to five years for providing, supplying or administering care to a pregnant woman.

Why are you liberals so worried about laws that other states have passed. It's their right and duty to run their states however the hell they want.

So your title says 'bans all abortions" yet the very first sentence says "except when necessary to save the life of the mother" so you lied right from the start. You are incredibly stupid.

Because people living in those states are effected by your draconian fake religious nonsense that allows laws made during the civil war to effect people today.

And you are loser who supports a bright orange penniless conman facing 87 felony charges and tried to steal an election.

I know who i would rather be.

Last I checked we are in Maryland not Arizona.

I'm not religious, also not really in favor of abortion except for actual health issues (the babies or the mothers). I'm kind of with Louis CK on this. It's not a cake, but it would have been if you left it in there.

It's a weird moral position to be against murder in general, but you know, okay with it when the alternative is super inconvenient.

Considering a fetus can't survive without the mother until at least 26 weeks anything before that is not "murder". It's a surgical procedure more akin to removing a growth.

But keep trying to tell women what they should be allowed to do with their bodies. It always works out well for you guys politically.:sarcasm:

What prospective "mother" takes 24 weeks to decide if she want's to be a mother..or not? Really stupid ones like you..yeah we get that. BTW moron-child...the current "generally accepted" gestation period for viability is actually 22 weeks...not 26.

but don't sweat it....you can always pop over to another state to rid yourself of yet another pregnancy because you are too stone-stupid to use birth control.

And it seems the citizens of Arizona are working on getting an amendment to their constitution on the ballot whereby making abortion legal up until viability. Kind of like how it is supposed to be done,

You guys are gonna lose this next election and abortion rights is going to be a big reason why.

Half the voting population is not going to take kindly to being told they can't make their own reproductive health decisions.

And Trump and the Heritage Foundation have their sights set on birth control next and a country wide ban on abortion

So honest question here. If it's not alive before 26 weeks, or not alive enough that aborting it is murder, what happens if you give someone an abortion against there will, chemically or otherwise? Do you get charged with assault/battery of the adult, but nothing with regard to the damaged growth? Because it's not Schrödinger's fetus, it's either a separate living entity or it isn't.

Why would a man such as yourself pretending he could menstruate care?

Your anaology is inapt as a box is not a fetus. The cat and box are not attached and the cat can survive independently of the box.

It is not as clear as a whether it is a seperate living entity or not as it can't survive until after a certain point. Which is why many laws state the number of weeks abortion is allowed up until.

And no despite the GOP's lies ( and Vrails lies) there is no such thing as post birth abortion.

However to your larger point you can be charged with murdering a fetus if you beat or harm the woman to the point of miscarriage.

But they were already being told, right or are you just ignorant? Roe established that abortions could be done under a trimester controlled fashion. Then Casey pretty much established that abortions could be done up to fetal viability. Now it is up to the states to establish the actual law on the matter and that is where the process belongs.
