'Arrange Icons By' in XP

In my music folder I always enjoyed choosing the 'arrange icons by date' feature - that way I could easily find the newest things I'd put in there. Now that I have XP at both home and work, that feature has disappeared. What's up with that?? Now I have to dig and root to find new things, or remember the actual titles. It bites!! Anyway to get around this? Is it a characteristic of the 'My Music' folder, and can I get around it by putting my stuff in another folder to get the 'date' option back? Or is it lost forever??

Wasn't date replaced by modified?

In the other folders the 'date' was replaced by 'modified', but in the music folder the options are different. They are as follows:

-Name
-Size
-Type
-Artist
-Album Title
-Year
-Track Number
-Duration

Not on mine... Maybe its your settings.


First thing, make sure icon view is set to "Details". Then right click on the header bar - it typically says "Name, Size, Type, Modified", but yours will probalby say something else - you'll get a popup menu with a whole butt-load of checkmarks. Make sure the Date checkbox is checked.

Then try to arrange by date.

Bingo.. I have mine set to details as well...

After you set it to details and get the columns you want, you can go back to thumbnails or icon view, and the new columns will magically appear under the "Arrange Icons By" menu option.

I tried changing my view to all of the available ones - and each time when I try to arrange I get the same 'ol crappy choices. Still no 'date' option.

Is there a dropdown menu when you right click on the header bar in "Details" view?

There we go!!!! The key is to use the dropdown menu to sort (I just had to select and add the 'date created' field), as opposed to using the 'arrange icons by' option.
