A crazed man attacked a U.S. Army officer at a Wal-Mart store in Albany, New York, after verbally harassing the solider for his military service, video surveillance footage shows.

Albany police released the footage after charging 47-year-old Yiqiang Wu of Schenectady with assault as a hate crime for Thursday's fight at a checkout line.

The Army captain told police that a man behind him in line began to yell derogatory comments at him about the United States and his service to the nation.

The officer kept trying to back away and just simply block him instead of hitting back. He knew if he hit back hard just once, like I'm sure he wanted to, he would be the one up on charges. Sad but true.

If the attacker returned to his ancestoral home country and pulled that crap on a Chinese soldier...he'd be dead, his family would be dead and so on.

Maybe instead he should be thanking all American soldiers. It is because of them that America is known as the land of the free. Which I'm sure is one of the reasons that his family came to this country.

First time the little a-hole took a swing he should have dropped him to the floor..

He didn't have to beat him to a pulp, but you are allowed to use equal or greater force needed to stop the attack..

Dropped to the floor and a knee on the neck until the cops got there.

What I find insulting is not ONE person came to the soldier's aide.. I would HOPE around here if this happened they'd have to dig the assailant out from under the pig pile of 20 or 30 concerned citizens..

That's impossible.

Only white people are capable of hate crimes.

There are 3 National Guard and 1 Army Reserve facilities in Albany.

Unfortunately, a lot of folks in urban areas in the northeast just do not want to get involved in any such confrontation. Plus, this is the Walmart sort of onlooker we discuss.
