Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Cassie Gurbisz co-authored an article that was recently published in a special issue of the scientific journal “Estuaries and Coasts.” The paper discusses how a regional long-term aerial mapping program has generated important insights into the ecology and management of submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) in the Chesapeake Bay. Because SAV serves as a critical habitat and filters water pollution, SAV restoration is often the focus of coastal ecosystem management. This publication serves as a model and justification for new and improved SAV mapping programs that can enhance coastal restoration efforts around the world.
