Anybody have one? Is it any good?

I've narrowed my laptop list down to an hp 1.8GHz AthlonX2 w/ Vista Basic and an ASUS Eee PC 4G.

I heard there is a new version coming out with a larger screen.

I have an OLPC which I gave to my son to beat to hell. It's pretty slow though, but built like a tank.

I bought one in January. It's a pretty amazing little machine. I'm still running Linux, but you can install Windows XP if you want.

After traveling with it a few times, and getting used to Linux, I have to say it comes in handy when you have to get on the web quickly (30 second boot time). Also it doesn't kill your shoulder (it only weighs 2 pounds).

However, with the limited storage capabilities and small screen, you may still want to go with a more "normal" laptop. I really like mine, though.

BOTH! :diva:

yeah it's definitely not a replacement for a full pc. if you have a desktop and only plan to use it when you're truely mobile to surf the web. it's cool. i enjoy keeping a music library with me, but you can fit a descent playlist on a memory card...

i just ordered mine, but plan to buy an entry level laptop as well to upgrade this 2 year old one. like i said -- it's a hella cool toy, but just barely a computer. :)

I really want an OQO (oqo). I used to want the biggest, fastest computer, but I don't do anything that requires horsepower anymore... a little Word, a lot of Outlook, and some web-based applications. I rarely use my laptop as a laptop - docking station at work and one at home; the laptop is really just a convenient way to tote my files and Outlook PST file around in. The OQO would do a much better job!

Anyway, I must be getting old, since my old monster Dell was hurting my back!
