"BAGHDAD, Nov. 27 — American troops killed at least five people, including a child, when they fired on vehicles trying to drive through roadblocks in two separate incidents in Iraq in the past two days, military officials and witnesses said today.

In further violence across Iraq, at least 30 other people were killed or found dead. In one incident today, a suicide bomber in Baquba claimed the lives of three women and three policemen.

One of the shootings involving American soldiers occurred this morning on a main road in Shaab, a neighborhood of northern Baghdad dominated by the Mahdi Army, the Shiite militia loyal to the cleric Moktada al-Sadr.

In the shooting, American soldiers fired on a minibus that was traveling on a street where only cars were allowed to pass, a military spokesman, Lt. Justin Cole, said."

You mean it's not. 135 people every day. :shocking:

Surely it's not the surge.

Can I just ask ???? The article say in plain English, which I understand fairly well that the one mini-bus was where it didnt belong and that it was warned prior to the shooting. The other vehicle hit was approaching a roadblock at high speed.

The question I ask is this. What were the American soldiers supposed to do ??
They were placed there to operate a roadblock the roadblock was ignored. Do you and the NY Times believe the soldiers should have just ignored them? Obviously this is a hit piece on American soldiers who were doing their job. Nothing new for the NY Times.

6 more were killed by an ignorant savage terrorist disguised as a Shepherd , hard to blame that one on the US too, and of course the rest were found killed by people who just plain enjoy murdering and do it for amusement. Unfortunately most mornings the Iraqui's wake up to bodies of people murdered and mutilated by their neighbors. How is the US to blame when Muslims kill Muslims for the fun of it and the great pleasure they get from it. These people who claim to be religious and live to kill. Religion my azz. Its a murderous cult.

Stop trying to use logic with emotional people. The answer is, yes, they think the soldiers should have ignored the bus and let them go on through. They will say the bus driver is just misunderstood and was merely trying to get food, water and medical care for his women and children, when these terrible soldiers killed them in cold blood.

I suppose you are right, because the Italians are still trying to put Americans on trial for shooting at the Communist journalist who tried to run a roadblock on her way to the airport a couple of years ago. I guess they were supposed to be prescient and know that the people running the roadblock were just a group of Italians who had bribed the kidnappers and were on their way home. Unfortunately US military basic training does not teach US soldiers to be mind readers.
