Waldorf is the only So. Md. location where they have an ATT store that sells the iPhone, according to the ATT website. So, I assumed they had 3G in that area.

My sister, who lives in No. Va., says she loves her iPhone -- and she is not the techno-geek type.

How much functionality do you lose being outside of a 3G service area?

I got my 3G a couple months ago after upgrading from the 1st iPhone. When I got mine Waldorf did not have 3G service and said it wold be coming before the end of 08.

You do not loose any functionality by not having 3G service. It just surfs the web, downloads email, access data slower.

Personally for me the 3G phone is much better that the original iPhone. I think they fixed a lot of the problems they had and the phone in general is just fast and better.

I think ATT is doing some region wide upgrades. On Tuesday I noticed a 3G signal between Owings and Deale on Route 2, and it stayed 3G through Annapolis.

Today (Thursday) I noticed 3G in my house in Chesapeake Beach for the first time.

Previously I would lose 3G while driving on Route 4 just past Upper Marlboro, so it seems they are spreading their network a bit.

You can get a hack to turn off the 3G and Edge and only use Wireless

a buddy got his off ebay and did that

I would imagine they would because other carriers have 3g in and around Waldorf. I get 3g in Bryantown with Sprint and Verizon.

Go into the AT&T store and ask to see - if I was going to drop a few bucks on one, I would definitely go in and ask. :coffee:
