At what age do you let your child....

I'd never let my child "play" with a knife. Knives are not toys. When a child reaches an age that he has a use for a pocket knife, that's when I'd consider allowing one, and not without strict guidelines. Carrying a pocket knife these days isn't like carrying a pocket knife when I was a kid. Lot's of things to take into consideration when allowing a child to carry what is now considered a weapon.

I took the xacto knife away from my neighbor's kid, a second grader. This kid was playing with a group of 4 other children.
His mom confronted me about it, said she let him play with it and told me to give it back. I simply said no if you're going to let him play with it.

I used to carry a buck knife in my purse.

As soon as they start teething.

Wow my son will be ready for one in no time, probably in a couple of months! He's 10 weeks old now.

2nd grade, morningbell? That's ridiculous. I'm glad you took it away and a little disturbed that the parents are so naive to put other children at risk.
