Should ATM machines in the USA be in English only? I was using a Bank of AMERICA ATM last week. It had a variety of language choices. Once I pressed the English button, it asked me to VERIFY that I wanted English. WTF?

Whatever the bank wants to do. It's called free market. If you don't like it, go to one that is english only.

Stop being such a whiny socialist.

ATM's? There should not be ONE bi lingual public sign in this nation, anywhere. It is an insult to anyone who has been here more than a few years and that includes immigrants who came here to BE Americans.

WRONG. There should not be government regulations or laws that dictate what languages people use in business transactions. There should also not be government use of any language other than english.

Stop being such a socialist, expecting society to control what your tender eyes are exposed to. This issue is a business choosing how they conduct their business. Let them. It's free market.

If that was true, there would be English signs in other countries for us to read.

Hmmm....

I've seen English on signs in Italy, Germany, Japan, China, Phillipines, Pakistan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico. I have never been to a country where there were not signs in English.

I guess we should adopt a different philosophy for some strange reason.

OK. I stand corrected.

And here I thought the discussion was about the menu system when using an ATM machine?

 I've used ATMs in those countries in English also. It's almost like they want to do business with anyone who has money. What a concept, huh?

Everywhere I've been they speak "dollars" somewhere in the country.

:roflmao: In 1982 I was in a head shop in Montreal. I asked a question, and the clerk didn't understand me since I wasn't speaking French. When I pulled out US dollars to pay, he suddenly spoke English and was very helpful.

It's amazing the power of the almighty dollar!

Wow, quite a response from the peanut gallery. First of all, I'm not sure how a simple poll regarding ATMs makes anyone a whiny socialist. I am as far right, anti-socialist as anyone can get. Secondly, I take no offense to BoyIdiot's name calling because I am able to consider the source. Not exactly an opinion that matters. He has proven to be quite a loser on many occasions. Thirdly, to Beave....Why aren't you using your new Avatar?

:yay: I figured that was what you meant. You tend to be the free market, anti-socialist type.

Well, no. What I said was an emotional reaction that I didn't think through. So, what I said was wrong. So, upon further review and in reading what YOU said, that is what I wish I'd said and what I, after thinking it through, agree with.

I personally think free market capitalism should dictate what language choices are offered to customers. In other words, it is up to each individual business.

:yay: and up to each customer. If you don't like it, take your business elsewhere. Speak with your wallet, not by asking society to fix it for you.
