Attacks Kill 57 in Iraq; Green Zone Hit

Ubi bene ibi patria
"BAGHDAD — Rockets and mortars pounded Baghdad's U.S.-protected Green Zone Sunday and a suicide car bomber struck an Iraqi army post in the northern city of Mosul in a surge of attacks that killed at least 57 people nationwide.

The latest violence underscored the fragile security situation and the resilience of both Sunni and Shiite extremist groups as the war enters its sixth year and the U.S. death toll in the conflict approaches 4,000.

Attacks in Baghdad probably stemmed from rising tensions between rival Shiite groups _ some of whom may have been behind the Green Zone blasts. It was the most sustained assault in months against the nerve center of the U.S. mission.

The deadliest attack of the day was in Mosul when a suicide driver slammed his vehicle through a security checkpoint in a hail of gunfire and detonated his explosives in front of an Iraqi headquarters building, killing 13 Iraqi soldiers and injuring 42 other people, police said."

...that is nothing new and has been going on not only for 100's of years, but, in this case, been going on pretty much since we 'invaded' and went to 'war'.

Crossing guard is about as accurate a statement as there is in terms of what our 'war' activities amount to. The stories that are mostly anecdotal these days about the administration not knowing who is who in this thing will make a lot of authors some money in the coming years. This kind of #### is precisely why Bush 41 not only did NOT want to depose Saddam but why he counseled his kid to not try it either.

You get hints of it all the time from 43's speeches; the desire for these people to have peace and liberty and anger that not every one seems to see it in the same terms. That's what I hoped for, liberty for them. It may have been a good bit better to kill off all the people over their fighting against that very idea than fussing at Americans for not 'getting it. At the end of the day our own Tory's had to choose sides. We haven't made people choose sides.
Maybe we can't. That's the conclusion 41 came to.
