I live in a $1M country chalet with a manicured lawn, mature trees and a servant for less than that.

Seriously, I couldn't imagine paying even $1,000 for a rent payment.

Of course not. Because you bought a looooong time ago. Otherwise $1000 a month rent is pish.

Check our classifieds. $750 a month won't get you a space in someone's toilet down here. That's why I don't understand why these people don't buy when the market is down.

I will continue sending out my $750 mortgage check each month to live in my ramshackle cape cod by the railroad tracks, public schools, fire department and convenience store.

The soup kitchen is open on M,W,F and I know we won't starve.

Sounds like heaven !

Granny, the market isn't down. Prices went up 130%, they're down 15% on average in the D.C area to include here. High-end homes are down much more than that, but most people aren't in the high-end market.

So what you are saying is all that chicken little crap you spew endlessly is incorrect?

Are you crazy? $1,900 per month! I can rent one of those new, three story, waterfront townhouses in Leonardtown, down at the wharf for $1,800.

If you don't like my threads, kindly stop reading them. And if you prefer to live in a townhouse, sharing the walls of your home with strangers, go right ahead. Tap on your bedroom wall and tell your neighbors I said hi.

This is information for people who want a real house with a yard, fireplace and garage. And maybe want to paint their walls and decorate instead of being stuck with whatever their landlord thinks is attractive.

Rentals in St. Mary's have gotten insane. That's why I'm down here. You can't rent a tiny apartment for what I pay in rent down here.

That's why I want to move to NC. Even here in BFE on the eastern shore you can't rent a room in a house for less than $600/mo.

I pay $950 per month. The house I'm in is almost 2100 sq. ft., brand new, 3 bdrm, 2 ba, 2 car garage, and in a beautiful neighborhood. There are 1800 sq. ft. duplexes down here that rent for $650 per month. My neighbor has a cute house behind mine that is probably 1600 sq. ft. and she pays $700. Granted, the jobs pay less down here but not alot less.

You have to look at the cost to maintain a house. My electric bill last month was $242 and we're talking 1600 sq ft of living space. :ohwell:

Holy crap! Our highest electric bill was $130. And that was with one of us being at home at all times for 3 weeks. My cousin told me last week that her SMECO bill has skyrocketed the past few months. :jet:

I unplug some appliances during the day (night lights, toaster, coffee pot) and the fans switch to off, too. Lately I've been leaving the windows open and if I have the air on, it's at a constant 75 degrees. We're not at home during the day and in the evenings we always have things planned. I hate SMECO!! :bawl:

That's just ridiculous. I'm anal about turning lights out and turning the T.V. off when walking out of the room. I cannot remember my electric bill being over $90 in MD and I haven't been gone that long. Wow. On the other hand, for the first time, I have a water bill. Always had a well up there. It runs about $65-70 per month down here.

:lmao: My husband has threatened that we are going to live like hobo's if SMECO keeps it up. You might find us bent over a barrel in the front yard trying to stay warm.
