Is this camera even operational? I drive past twice a day and have never seen it go off. People don't fly by but definitely going fast enough that it should set it off.
Just to let you all know, Governor Moore is going to have legislation introduced to raise the fine for speed camera violations to $200.
Just installed today, is a new speed enforcement camera and solar panel in Mexico's parking lot on Rt. 4. Its across Rt.4 from the Calverton School...
I'm not all in on speed cameras BUT, I think they should install red light cameras at every intersection in the county!
Ok, I had no idea they didn't flash. Thanks! The legal limit is no less than 12mph over. So in a 55, they need to be going 68. But since these don't use flashes like the RLCs, you wouldnt know.
MD work zone speed camera fines could jump 500%
Maryland’s work zone speed camera violations would rise under recommendations that Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller and transportation officials discussed Thursday.thedailyrecord.com
Just for work zone cameras.
Wow, so across the divided highway from the school. Yeah, no abuse here.
Do you really think it will stop there once the Legislature gets it?The legal limit is no less than 12mph over. So in a 55, they need to be going 68. But since these don't use flashes like the RLCs, you wouldnt know.

Here's a curiosity question for you. You got caught twice. Did you learn anything from it and slow down? Or did you just slow down in that particular area? I know that may sound like a lecture, but it's not the way I mean it at all. I've got a lead foot and lately I've made a conscious effort to stick to the limit or only slightly over. Budget is tight enough and I don't want to create an expense that I absolutely do have control over (i.e fines, insurance rate increases etc).Do you really think it will stop there once the Legislature gets it?
Several years ago when Chesapeake Beach installed the first one at Beach Elementary the Town took in something like 3 or 4 hundred thousand dollars in fines (it got me two Saturdays in a row at 4:30AM. Totally illegal since they're not supposed to be on every day or 24 hours a day. That later changed but there were no refunds).
The next year the fines dropped about 80% and there were Council members who wanted to raise the fines to make up for the "lost" revenue. Fortunately the Town Attorney put a stop to that but not without some official grumbling.

EVERDAY I consistently see drivers that are obviously breaking the limit, weaving in an out of traffic, running red lights that have long been red etc etc. The speed limit in St Mary's City - a few miles from where I live, is 40 then 30 with double yellow lines. I bet I see someone breaking that limit or passing in that area at least four times a week.
It irritates the crap out of me. I got hit twice last year, once by someone who was speeding and ran a red light and t-boned my brand new car and a month later by someone who ignored a stop sign and hit me in my rental vehicle. If speed cameras and extra fines would actually make or even eventually an impact - I'm all for it.
What's the solution then? Vigilantism? The Purge? But they wont. If they ran a red that had been red long enough that you had green, that was a long time after theirs had been red. A whole second at least, more likely 1.5 to 2 seconds. Speed cameras wont deter that. Nor will RLCs. Especially since fines are low and theres no reporting.
Lets raise fines and make it reportable you say? Well, now you have two problems.
1. Once you do those things, you are into criminal and not civil offenses. Those require you to identify the actual driver, not just the vehicle. Doing that adds expense, reducing profit.
2. Citizenry caught up wrongly in that net WILL fight, further reducing your profit.
Yet again, don't think these systems have jack to do with safety. They are about money and nothing else. Once the money dries up, the systems go away.
No honest to god traffic enforcement with real tickets written by real officers with real penalties. Not just two guys running radar/laser enforcement and known places three times a month to earn the freaking grant money to do it again on overtime. What's the solution then? Vigilantism? The Purge?
So long as there are no restrictions on why, that gets my vote.... The Purge?
