ATX pin converter

Last nite I finally got around to putting my computer together.

One problem....my PSU doesn't have a 24 pin ATX slot, it only has the 20 pin....and it doesn't even have the standard extra 4 pin connector.

So now I have to go running around and hope that Best Buy or Staples has a converter...which I am fairly certain they don't.

Are there any other places in the Lexington Park area that I could check?

I never think of going there anymore. They never seem to have what I need.

Neither did I. I went to Staples first, where some pimply faced kid told me that they would "probably be in the computer section."

I then went to Best Buy where I asked a roaming salesmen who had to get another salesmen who had to get another salesmen who sent me to their Geeksquad guys who told me that, "You need to buy a new motherboard, yours is not compatible" and irregardless of what I said, he said it was impossible.

Next was Wal-Mart which I browsed their section before asking the lady behind the counter. "Do you have a 20 to 24 pin atx converter?"
"No"
"Can you check your computer?"
pressed about 3 buttons "No"
"Do you have any video cards?" Mind you, the video cards are one row over from where this lady was standing....
"No"
"Can you check your computer?"
presses a few buttons
"No"

i remembered seeing a radio shack around here...so I finally found it.

so instead of suggesting a different powersupply, (which costs far less) their suggestion was a motherboard.:killingme

Truth be told, I was expecting them to point me to the $2k laptop and tell me that the only way I would ever have a working computer was to use that one.

I have an extra 20-24 converter...

If you dont even have a 24 pin main and a 4 pin for the cpu your PS is out of date.

Yep, my PSU is very much out of date. But that is fine by me, so long as the rest of my components are nice and shiny new. Which they are.

I got everything put together and am working on installing and patching all my games right now. I can't wait!

Radio Shack had it :yay:

Got the cables all connected on my lunch break, so when I get home I will work the BIOS and get my OS installed!:yahoo:

Radio Shack should consider changing their name. Whenever I think of "Radio Shack", I think of 8-Track tape players...for some reason.

I hardly ever go there for modern technology.

Lemme guess its a whopping 200 watts right? :killingme

I might have to get a bigger one. My 700 is almost at its limit.

Every motherboard ive bought in the past 3 years even has needed 24 pin plus atleast the 4 pin CPU.

Just for my mobo now I need a 24 pin a 8 pin for cpu and a 4 pin molex.

yep same here

I was going to recommend a new PSU because I'd never even heard of that kind of adapter hehe

Xaquin is the SOMD power supply guy! He made a recommendation to me, which I took, and I'm very happy with what I ordered. All shiny, pretty chrome, blue lights and heaven forbid, it actually works very well!
