Power flickered a few times...Sumps were close to kicking in...then it went out for 4 days.
I tried to siphon, I tried bucket brigade,...and fought a losing battle against torrents of rain seeping through foundation cracks.

Schools closed,...generators echoed off-on for the next 90+ hours...Chain saws too.
SO many limbs down, sheds damages, roads washed out...

We wandered down near Long Beach & Scientists Cliffs to see how folks were holding up. It was rough.

I hate what Irene did...but it did teach some life-long lessons!

If I remember correctly, friends in Wildwood got hammered. We didn't get much of anything in Tall Timbers.

Remember it well, but ice storms in 94 were way worse.

Just sneakin' around....
My power was out for 8 days in Town Creek, had a small generator that ran all day, showers at work, lots of BBQ. An incredible number of trees came down, and they were all huge trees. My neighbors and I were out cutting and clearing for days just so traffic could flow. Took forever for official cleanup crews to get to us.

Remember it well, but ice storms in 94 were way worse.
My ex and I were supposed to come to Pax for job interviews. Needless to say, we had to postpone.

Myself, Wifey, and a preschool baby girl headed out for Orlando the morning it stopped. Made it as far as Horne's and hit stop and go traffic all the way to I95 south. We heard Virgnia crews with chainsaws in the distance. Everyone would jump in their cars and creep about 100 yds, stop, get out and mingle for a half hour or so, rinse, repeat. It was a very bizarre experience, but we made it to our timeshare in 2 days.

I was in Spain at the time on a business trip, so naturally all hell broke loose here and my wife and daughter's had to endure the loss of power and 21" of water in the basement from the lack of power for the sump pump. I got home several days later to most of the basement stuff sitting out in the back yard drying out. A person from my work brought over a pump to pump out the water (although I would have probably just unmounted the toilet and let the 4" drain take care of the majority of water) and my wife was one of the first to rent a dehumidifier before they became very hard to get in the weeks after the storm.

We contacted ServPro to come out and do their thing, but they wanted $5K deposit even before coming out. It was only after they found out that all the belongings and water were already removed and there was a dehumidifier running that they agreed to waive the deposit and come out. The brought in 5 additional dehumidifiers and they ran for a week to dry up the basement and they removed the drywall/insulation and treated all the wood studs.

I made enough from the insurance to rebuild the basement, replace the possessions we wanted and had enough left over to have a whole house generator put in to make sure we didn't have to go through that type of storm situation again.

We were without power - WATER - and we couldn't get out, because a huge tree blocked the road and no one was removing it.
We had a neighbor who had a generator and provided us water - but the moment they had that tree out, we were at our in-laws.

Lifted from my FB...

Hi everyone! We made it through. Power went out about 630 last night and still out. (Checking in from Mom's house) Two more trees down and some cosmetic damage to the shed. Neighbors lost trees, too. But no damage to any of our homes.
