(CAMBRIDGE, MD) – The autopsy today on the body of the man who ran from a traffic stop in Dorchester County yesterday and was transported to the hospital after being found in distress by troopers, determined there was no trauma, but remains open pending further tests.
An autopsy was conducted today on the body of Larry D. Ross, Jr., 37, of Easton, Md, at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore. The autopsy found no signs of trauma on the body or any injuries indicating any type of force was used when he was handcuffed. According to the medical examiner, the autopsy remains open pending additional analyses and toxicology tests. The cause and manner of death have not been determined at this time.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, Ross ran from his car yesterday when he was stopped for a traffic and equipment violation shortly after 1:00 p.m. in Cambridge. Although he was not pursued at that time, he was later found lying in a field by troopers about one-half mile from the traffic stop. Ross was compliant and was handcuffed without force. Troopers noted he was sweating profusely and called for an ambulance. Ross said he needed water and was provided water to drink after he walked with troopers back to a police car where they had water. After receiving his permission, a trooper poured water onto his head and neck in an effort to cool him.
Ross was transported by ambulance to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital shortly before 3:30 p.m. yesterday.
Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigators are conducting the investigation. Upon conclusion of the investigation, it will be presented to the State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
The investigation is continuing.
