Maryland State Police say a mother and her newborn are doing okay today after the baby was born on the side of the road in Garrett County Thursday morning.

State Police say the mother was headed to the hospital when she went into labor.
An off-duty medical professional found the woman and helped her deliver the baby on the side of the road.

The baby was born 10 weeks early.

Lucky for her Ralph Northam wasn't driving by.

Knew a lady who was on her way to Calvert Hospital. Got as far as the Bob Evans Restaurant before she told her husband to pull over. He ended up delivering the baby and had an ambulance meet them on the side of the road to take her and the baby the rest of the way to the hospital.
