Congrats on the little one! I didn't give my little one jar food until he was about 5 1/2 months old. I did start giving him baby cereal mixed with breast milk (or formula/water if you don't breastfeed) when he was 3 1/2 months old and he took right to it without a problem. I don't really think there's a set age to start trying. Everyone is going to tell you something different. If they don't take to it wait a few weeks and try again. And for the teething, try putting a wet washcloth in the freezer for a few minutes and give them that to chew on. Mine really liked that. You can always try the good 'ol fashion teething rings too.

I started my girl at 4 months. Give her a little at a time. Start with veggies. Oragel seems to work for my little one, a cold rag, teething rings..

Dont stock up like I did on baby food. She refused to eat it after 6 months.. Anyone want to buy some baby food

For the teething some things you can try:

A frozen bagel
a frozen wet washcloth
store bought teething rings
homeopathic teething tablets

My little one started on cereal at about 3 1/2 months. She didnt care for it much at first so I backed off and tried again. I started her on single grain rice, and she didnt like it, so I changed to the single grain oatmeal and she liked that much better. Now she will eat both.

As for veggies, fruit, etc. I waited until about 5 months to start that.

I started cereal at 3 weeks in the bottle due to reflux. There for she doesn't care to much to spoon feed cereal.

We started fruits at 4 months and green veggies at 5 1/2 months. Now she pretty much eats any baby food you give her (stage 2) she will be 8 months next week. I just started the meats last week though.

I gave her one of the biter biscuits today and she got a little choked up on it when she got a peice of it off. Any one have any advice on that kind of stuff? It scared me and I'm not sure I want to try it again. She does have two teeth on the bottom.

Have you tried the "puffs"? They melt in their mouth. I know my neice eats them and loves them. Comes in different flavors.

I tried the biter biscuits at 7 1/2 months and my little one didnt do too well with them either.

She is now 9 months and I just tried them again, she did much better this time. But now she feeds them to the dogs.

my son started those biter biscuits early, he did fine with them though. He does love the puffs & they have some cheese curl things too that he loves. He's 11 months old now & eats anything we eat for the most part. I started him on baby food around 4 months. Heads up, the ONLY thing he would not eat was the baby food meats....have you smelled them?! YUCK! But he will eat real food meats so don't be discouraged if she doesn't like those. When I started the baby food I gave him one new one a week to make sure of no allergies & just kept trying all of them. He eats them all with the exception of the meats. His favorite is sweet corn caserole.

Yes the meats are really gross. My daughter will eat the turkey and sweet potatoes but that is it. Her favorite is spinach and potatoes.

We started with Puffs at 7 months and Cheerios at 8 months. Have you tried those?

When we first started the biter biscuits, I put them in a mesh feeder so he couldn't break a large piece off and choke.

Yeah, the baby meats are gross. Table food meats mashed up is better than the baby food meats.

Both of my boys had their first baby food jar at around 6 months old. I fed cereals at 4 months and then baby food at 6 months. A little after 9 months, they both had all of thier teeth, so I gave them table food cut up in a very small bites.

I did the same way as you did to make sure there's no allergies. I kept track of the foods passed the allergy test and saved the list to added to the baby's book keepsake. My kids have no food allergies.

About the meats, don't be discourage if your babies won't eat meats. It took my oldest to finally like eating meats when he was almost 4 years old. Now, my baby doesn't like meats, and he throws them on the floor. The doctor told me to keep offering meats on their plate even though you know it will end up on the floor. There's other ways to make sure the babies get their proteins such as yogurt, string cheese, cheeses, cottage cheese, etc.

S loves all meats that I fix her. Not baby food meats either. She also loves her greens. She will eat anything.

Not my boys. They hate the meats. It took me a long time to finally get my oldest to eat his meats on the plate. Now, I'm working on the baby to eat his meats. My boys eat vegetables and fruits. Both of them hates eggplants (they said "YUCK!") and the baby hates eggs. Baby knows how to pick eggs out of his food on the plate to throw it on the floor. I really hate kitchen clean up lately. I'm constantly sweeping and moping the floors for like 3 or 4 times a day.

Again, the baby food meats are NASTY!

What does your pediatrician say?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends to breastfeed or formula feed exclusively until the child is 6 months old then introduce rice cereal. This is a change from the previous 4 month recommendation. Good luck!

After she got a little choked up and I took it from her I thought to myself "dummy you should have put it in the feeder". Next time I will! She loves ice cubes in the feeder.
