Baby formula shortage

I may just be being dim here, but if there's such a shortage how are people feeding their babies? I mean, I know the baby formula shelves are bare - I've seen them myself - so what are all the babies eating?

I would wager that many have had an epiphany moment when they searched for ways to feed their babies without formula. Finding that, 'Wait a minute. I could be making a more nutritional and balanced "formula" myself using real unadulterated natural food ingredients, and it's relatively cheaper'? So they've started to ween themselves off the mass produced, fake food they have been buying and feeding their baby and are now making real natural and healthy food for their babies. One would hope anyway.

The "experts" warn parents not to do that or they'll KILL!! their baby. But then it's like, what did non-breastfeeders do before formula was invented?

I did a search for "what are people feeding their babies during the formula shortage?" and it was largely unhelpful. The biggest "tip" was to switch formulas, but the shelves I saw didn't have baby formula of any brand. Several sites suggested finding a lactating mom and have her wet nurse your baby. The CDC basically said sucks to be you, go talk to your pediatrician, why you asking us, shoulda breastfed ya dummy.

I'm not seeing stories of mass infant starvation fatalities, so parents must be finding solutions.

I'm still waiting for the "entrepreneurs" to take advantage. The same ones who were selling cleaning products and TP on local classifieds

BadGirl

I am so very blessed
My niece had twin babies yesterday (YAY! :baby: ), and our family has been working to provide her with a cushion of formula until normal supplies return to normal.

Of course, we've taken a chance on purchasing formula for her two littles that they may not actually like. Some parents have to try several different types of formula before finding one that their child can tolerate/eats. What if these babies do not like the formula that we've provided? Then what? They have to eat it anyway. :frown:

Didn't someone post that 90% of what Abbott sells goes to WIC programs .? So all that formula being brought in may not be available to people not in the program. Others may still be searching .

Just sneakin' around....
I'm sure the babies are getting whole milk. Some docs say never ever, other say it's ok in small quantities, some say it's ok earlier than recommended.

I know some are getting some on eBay - Amazon UK - and in some places, breastfeeding women have formed little groups to "share".

But - you're right, how DID all of humanity get by before formula?
