Babysitting prices

We had a great babysitter this weekend, and I think we paid her well. Can I get your opinions on what you think is right?

Boy 4, Girl 6, 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM, no bad surprises from the kids (like poop). She played with the kids outside, fed them lunch, ordered dinner, and tipped as directed. I checked the computers, and she only used the one she was told she could, and didn't go anywhere she shouldn't have. The kids can't wait for us to go out again so they can be with her.

What amount would you pay?

14. She got better than that, which I think she deserved.

This was our first non-family, paid for sitter in a couple of years.

I was thinking $50-$75 but didn't want you to feel bad if I was too high so I started low. It sounds like you did just fine!

I always thought that the going rate was $5 a kid....so I say $100(with tip)

Exactly! Kids are our most prized posession yet too often people don't want to pay their childcare providers well to watch them well. I never understood that.

Absolutely.

I felt we paid her on the high end of the scale, $75, but we got our money's worth. I just wanted to make sure we weren't way off base with the amount. She said she'd love to sit for them any time, so I guess she didn't mind the amount either.

Heck, for $75, I'd babysit for you. Just make sure that you have a nice fresh bag of Cheetos Puffs and a 6 pack of Diet Coke.

lets look at it from this point of view she worked 11 hrs for $75 so that is 6.81 per hour for both kids. That works out to 3.40 per kid per hour. she is 14. Well I think she did good. 6.81 and hr is not bad for a girl her age.. There are some kids working for less than that ans getting taxes taken out on them... So I think you paid her a good rate for a all day job..

When I had a babysitter(she grew up) I usually paid her about $10 an hour for 2 kids who were 2 and 3 at the time.


I'm still willing to pay $10 an hour for a responsible person to watch my 3 and 4 year olds every now and then

I usually charge 10.00 an hour because 1. I am an adult. 2. I drive myself to the babysitting jobs. 3. I don't have to be home before midnight.
