Back to School

We usually go the two weekends before school starts. My girls were asking me last night when we were going and how much they were getting. My oldest (who is going into 7th) said she only wants a couple of new things and she'd like to go the weekend AFTER school starts so she can see what's in style.

Damn, school just ended two weeks ago. Let 'em have some kind of vacation time, or do you own stock in Wal-Mart or Target?

I start a week or two before the first day of school and I purchase whatever is on the list. Not sure how much it ranges, though probably not much more than $30.

Oh, wait - then there are school clothes. I will let my daughter get 2-3 new things, usually shirts. I buy her stuff all summer long, so I don't see the need to spend a bunch on new clothes before school starts. The majority of her wardrobe comes from Christmas and her birthday.

We normally don't do back to school shopping. Usually if I am in a store and see something I like or think he will like AND it's on sale, I will buy it. He is a boy and not into shopping, so it isn't that big of a deal. When I was younger my parents took us about two weeks before or we would do out of town shopping and spent a few hundred on each of us.

Do you think what is on the list is reasonable? At the end of this school year my son brought plenty of his stuff home...never used. I didn't even send everything on the list to school, I kept it at home. It seems that you are buying for the whole class. Maybe that's just me.....what do you think?

I had the same thing happen. I only let my girls take minimal stuff and I kept the rest of what was on the list at the top of the closet. They took stuff as they needed it, we have leftovers AND they brought stuff home from school they hadn't touched all year.

I think it's reasonable, but sometimes they want multiple quantities of stuff like ziploc baggies & tissues. I'll usually just buy one; not a few.

Happy Camper!
Summer birthday so lots of clothes as gifts.

Supplies - just what's on the list and maybe a select item or 2 to personalize.

I usually buy school clothes at the Delaware outlets when we go to OC in August.

The school supply lists are ridiculous. There are things on the list they never even use. The lists are generic, so sometimes when they get to school the teacher actually wants something different than what was on the list.

I have already started picking up stuff for my daughter here and there. I keep it all down in my closet so she can't wear it before school starts. I usually hit the clearance racks when they start clearing out the summer stuff to get them new shorts and things. Have done it this way for years. My boys are easy because they don't seem to sneeze and grow out of things like my daughter does. Anyway, I'm rambling. :howdy:
