Hi All,
:howdy:I know I haven't been too active on the forums for a while. I retired a couple of years ago when the wise:sarcasm: decision to shut the coal plants down, came to fruition.
With our economy being the way it is and my husband and I being accustomed to luxury things, such as eating, keeping a roof over our heads, having electricity and running water, it has become necessary for me to return to the work force. I have been hired by the Seafarers Union at the Harry Lundburg School in Piney Point. Just curious if there are any forumites who may have been employed or currently employed or may have friends or relatives who have worked there and did they like it.

Long ago (late 70s) I was an employee, Engineering Instructor. Be very careful who you associate with there. The Union is NOT your friend. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Just my experience. Just one example big lay off of workers with no prior notice two days before Christmas.

I hear it is an evil union, like most.
My paternal grandfather was an organizer for the Teamsters on top of his regular job for 30 years.
The Local treated him and gramma good in retirement, 30 year Union pension on top of health benefits.
However, he had had a deep mistrust of the International, said the Union bosses were as bad as the Owners and the Politicians.

I retired after 31 years from Lundberg. I loved my job. Great insurance and good pension benefits.
I met thousands of people. Any job is what YOU make of it.
Good luck.

What Department will you be working in?

One of my associates' wife works there...has for many years and enjoys her job and co-workers. Hard to beat Piney Point too..some of the smartest, bestest looking people in the whole county live there. And not in Ridge.

I am happy that your experience was different than mine.
