Backing up my computer

I'm embarrassed to say that I've never backed up the whole thing - just bits and pieces. But I want to do a full backup just in case of catastrophe. What's the best way to go about it?

I've got about 10GB of data that would need to be backed up.

TIA!

In all honesty, it seems to never fail that when I attempt to do something with a computer that sounds like it should be pretty simple, it always ask me some question I can't answer or I end up doing something I shouldn't of done and I end up with regrets...:bawl: Heck, when I hooked up my external hard drive I blocked myself from being able to access the internet...:bawl: When I attempted to hook my new stereo to the computer so I could download my MP3s to the stereo system, I got halfway thru the setup wizard and it said, "you do realize if you continue, your system may never work the same way again, don't you"...:bawl: I'm stuck playing dumb ole CDs on my stereo cause I'm afraid to go past that point...:bawl: And as for trying to find and get rid of all my spyware...:bawl:

:poorbaby: If you have windows XP, you should be ok. If not, there's always Mainman. If he's not logged on, just call the space bar.

Hmmm...so what you all are saying is that I need an external drive to back up to - can't just burn to DVD.

DVD's are 4.7GB. You can back up the data to multiple DVD's, but it's not as easy. I just made a 300GB external drive for $120 ($90 for the drive, $30 for the case). That way I can back up my desktop and laptop on the one drive and still have room to spare.

I want that!!! So is there a special drive I need, or just a regular hard drive that I can connect to my existing computer? I'd probably back up every night.
