Bacon Grease

You know how we always laugh at the old fat family momma who cooks everything in bacon fat?

Ok.... I get it. Wanted to make some scrambled eggs for dinner, remembered I had no butter for the pan. But I did have some bacon grease from a few mornings ago.

Awesome. It smells great, it tastes great, and I'm gonna die early.

Everything is better with bacon grease. Everything. :coffee:

I am a firm believer in quality over quantity. So what if you chose to do something that shaves time off the end of your life if it makes you happy or even content.

I put my bacon grease in the fridge and like to spread it on my toast every morning.

My last cholesterol check had me at 347 and my triglycerides were off the charts. I feel fine and don't worry about. I don't belive in cholesterol meds either.

I keep a metal bowel of bacon grease in my fridge just for cooking. It is the key ingredient for making refried beans.

Agreed. I would have to be starving to try either...or ignorant of what I was eating. My son on the other hand, LOVES Menudo...:barf:
My issue with menudo is the hominy, I can handle the tripe and hooves.

We had a little canister that used to sit on the back of the stove for bacon drippings when I was growing up. The canister had the word GREASE on it in raised letters; I think it might have had a strainer kind of lid that was inserted at the top to catch any bacon crumblings. My dad fried his eggs and fried potatoes in bacon grease every morning. Nothing's better for frying 'taters than bacon grease!

I just let it cool and pour it over the dog's food. The vet says it's fine as long as it's not every single day. It makes her coat shiny. She knows it's treat time when she smells the bacon frying. I just have a really hard time reusing bacon grease to cook anything else.

I've got that same container, one of the few things I wanted from grandma's house.

I guess I'm stupid when it comes to this. Can you just let it sit out and use it as needed? I always figured if it was a few days old, even in the fridge, it was no good.
