It's not a fatal YET. The MSP and SMCSO do a fatal investigation whenever there are extenuating injuries in traffic accidents. The patient was transported to the hospital alive. The person who sent that update is just guessing.

As a Medic when you have CPR in Progress it’s also known as Clinical Death, the brain, tissues and organs of the body can survive clinical death for considerable periods especially with the oxygen and narcotics overload dumped into a person by Medics. It would be safe to assume that this victim will likely expire in time coming....

Fatality or not, I did recall hearing on the online scanner feed "Cancel the helicopter, we now have CPR in progress and will be ground transporting...."

Not sure why people here can’t take the information “as is” and need to read in between the lines or not nit-pick. To me I read it as, damn I guess I need to find a new way home since I got off work at 1300 hours.

P.S. Im home now and not stuck in traffic!

If it were a fatal accident, wouldn't the road still be closed for reconstruction?

Safe to assume or not, it doesn't make a difference. People have had clinical death and have lived for extended periods of time afterwards.
If you take it as is, it was clearly written as 'fatal.' Clinical death and biological death are two different things. Biological death happens after clinical death. The patient coded while the EMT's and paramedic were on scene working on the patient, so biological death had not happened yet. It's possible to revive someone after clinical death, it's not possible after biological.
I just don't think it's fair to assume the person in the vehicle had died yet when the EMT's and medics were still working on them when that 'update' was posted.
