Bad restaurant stories

I try hard to not think about that fact, but I must admit I eat way less Chinese food than I used to. I prefer the places that cook the food in front of you ... not to say that the preparation/storage of said food was necessarily sanitary and at proper temperatures.
My grandfather immigrated here and opened up a chinese restaurant in DC and my Dad and all of his siblings lived above it. Funny thing is most "cooks" in takeout chinese restaurants (my grandpa included) learn to cook the food here in America, that is why most menus all across the country are similar if not the same.

Food sanitation is just not viewed the same way. My Grandpa grew up in a mud hut in china so the way they prepare food here IS sanitary compared to that.

All this being said I still eat the stuff on the regular and have never gotten sick.

Honestly, "sanitation" is overrated. You are far more germy than some restaurant cook, who at least washes his hands periodically throughout his shift. Unless you wash and sanitize your hands immediately before eating, and do not touch anything else except your food, you are carrying and transmitting more bacteria and germs than any restaurant worker.

Sure, the restaurant should be reasonably clean and employees should be neat and tidy. But beyond that, you're just being a germophobe and should stay home in your bubble.

About the girl who was wrapping wontons: what's the difference if she wraps and does other things with her hands or with gloves? Gloves will carry the same phone cooties that her hands do.

Aren't wontons deep fried? That would kill all the germs. Then you'd just have to worry about the hair....

You're right. She wouldn't have had the sense to take the gloves off or put a new pair on before starting again. So it would've been pointless.

I'm not a germophobe. If anything, eating at places like this have helped me build a strong immune system. I guess my issue with it was it being so blatant that she didn't know or care about sanitary procedures, and didn't care who saw. Most places, it will happen behind closed doors.

I know, "What does it matter if it's done in front of you or behind a wall?" I can see it. That's the difference.

Most places have roaches crawling everywhere and people still go.. until they find one crawling next to them or in their food, and they write the place off.

BWW in the dorf!! The worst experience ever!! A few months ago my friend and I stopped in for lunch. Only a few people in there. Waitress comes over and we both ordered burgers. Food came out pretty fast and all seemed good. However my friend got the wrong burger plus a bonus hair in burger. So the waitress tries to make light of the situation and says, "are you sure its not your hair?" After she totally throws the kitchen staff under the bus by saying, "they always screw up orders, I will take care of it." She comes back in a few with a new burger and this time it is the right burger but now it comes with several black curly bonus hairs!!! SO GROSS!! The manager comes over and we explain the situation to him, the whole time the kitchen staff is standing by the entrance to the kitchen laughing their butts off!! The manager agrees to take only the burger off of our bill!!! The waitress has the nerve to say to me, "well everything was ok with your food so don't forget my tip!!!" I did pay for my burger, no tip! We left as fast as we could!

I can't think of a single chain restaurant that impresses me other than Chick-Fil-A. The rest are underwhelming with their bagged insta-chow and cookie cutter menus. I wouldn't dream of getting wings at BWW when I can travel about 5 miles further and get them at St. James Store.

Cats and Chinese

When my daughter was 16 she asked me about the chinese using cat meat in their food. I told her that cat is not what she should be worried about.
I asked her if she had ever seen a chinese funeral, after a bit, she barfed in the driveway.

Not a germophobe by any means, but if I scratch my arm or brush my hair away and then touch MY food that's one thing, but I don't see that acceptable for a commercial business I am paying to prepare my food. Nor would that be acceptable if I were preparing food for others.

You may not mind if someone digs up their nose then fixes your food, but I mind, and it has nothing to do with being a germophobe, believe me.
