Badly Matted Cats

Hello,
I rescued two cats that I was told was friendly. Turns out they are very scared to the point of acting half-feral. One has long hair and her sister has short and they both have matted hair and it's getting worse. Does anyone know where I could take them to be groomed? They will probably need to be given something to calm them or to knock them out. I found on the web some groomers who do that but they are not in this state so not too helpful. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks.

Send a pm to Appyday. :yay:

Although if they are feral, you may want to take them to your vet. Certain cats are very sensitive to certain drugs.

Good luck.

:yeahthat: Best of luck! I found a feral cat when I was a teen; she was a kitten really, and I nursed her back to health from a serious case of dystemper. They take a while to get used to people and domestic surroundings, and I'm thinking more on the order of months than of weeks.

I know that the vet just north of gate one does grooming for cats. i think they said their prices start at @$35 and go up from there depending on the severity of the matting.

I bought a comb especially for matts from Walmart and it worked GREAT in getting them out.

I've had great experience with the groomers at St. Mary's Vet.

Thanks, everyone, for the information. I purchased a dematting comb and had a little success with the shorter hair cat. She lets me comb her for about 2 minutes at a time. Is there something like people use as a detangler that I can use on cats? I don't want to use what I use as I'm afraid it may hurt them if they lick it. I think I'm going to have to bring the long hair cat to a professional. Most of her mats are very tight and right along the top of her back. Fortunately, she is the friendliest of the two.

This is WAY overdue but I want to publicly thank Appy for the wonderful work she did with my long-haired, badly matted cat! :notworthy She shaved her to make her look like a little lion and she was adorable. She knew it too! She pranced around and posed on the arm of the sofa. I wish I had taken a picture of her. It's growing out a little now so I'm sure another trip to Appy's will be in the future. She seems much happier without that long coat to drap around. :flowers:
