OK...OK... I know there's been alot of negative press here lately about hot dogs, but I'm sorry. I happen to like a good hot dog every now and then. I have always liked Nathan's hot dogs, and think they're the best.

However, I keep seeing these Ball Park "Angus" Beef Hot Dogs when I'm shopping and I'm wondering if anyone has tried them, and what their opinion is?

They're good, but ain't no Bryan's....

I liked Nathans too, until I started using Boar's Head beef franks in natural casings. I much prefer them now.

They call me ... Sarcasmo
Get some hot dogs from Nick's w/ natural casing.:yum: You grill them up right and you get a little crunch when you bite into them.

I remember as a kid getting hot dogs with skin casings and I didn't care for them that much. I've eaten at Ben's Chili Bowl up in DC and wasn't all that wild about the casings on their hot dogs. However, the chili more than made up for the difference.

I know that the Nathan's Beef Hot Dogs have a "very thin" casing that gives them the slight crunch, and I guess that's what makes them enjoyable.

If these Bryan's Hot Dogs were available, I'll more than likely try them, but I have never seen them. I guess they're like "Hughes" scrapple. It's supposed to be readily available in Delaware, but not around here.

OK.... now that I've said all this, time to go to the grocery store to get some scrapple for breakfast in the morning.:drool:

The ones that Nick's sells used to be Kuntzler hot dogs. I don't know if they're still getting most of their meat from C&C in Bowie, but I can tell you that the 5 pound slab of Kuntzler bacon they sell is OFF THE HOOK

Does anyone know if the ones at Nick's are without nitrates? I LOVE me a good hot dog off the grill, but have not had one in over 10 years, as the nitrates in them give me migraines. If I could find one that I could eat, I would snap them up in a heartbeat.

I can't answer about the nitrates. All I can tell you is that the bacon they sell is Kuntzler brand, and the hot dogs may be Kuntzler as well.

Just tried and now love Hebrew National beef hotdogs! Not sure about the nitrates but I don't think they have any. They say that they don't contain anything artificial. I think they are much easier to digest. Several people at work commented that they usually couldn't handle hotdogs and they didn't have any problems with these.

Thanks all! I'll ask the next time I'm in Nick's about theirs and check out the Hebrew National ones as well. Might be worth trying and just keep the migraine meds handy, just in case!
