(Fredericksburg) - The search is on to find a stolen Salvation Army kettle filled with donations.
A bandit snatched a volunteer bell ringer's kettle right from under her arms Saturday outside the K-Mart on Route 3 in the Spotsylvania Crossing Shopping Center.
The volunteer had just finished her shift and was walking to her car when the suspect ran up and grabbed the kettle. She suffered a sprained wrist.
She tells police that the suspect was wearing a suede jacket with a panther on the back and a burgundy stocking cap.
It's not known how much money the suspect made off with because the kettle donations had not yet been counted.
The Fredericksburg Salvation Army has about a dozen bell ringers outside stores this season. Its "Red Kettle" program helps buy Christmas dinners and puts toys under trees for underprivileged families in the area.
