Infamous Anti-Gay Group Plans To Picket Va. Tech Funerals

The families of those killed in the Virginia Tech massacre may not be able to grieve in peace at the funerals of those they lost. An anti-gay religious group known for protesting at the funerals of American soldiers killed in Iraq is planning on appearing at services for those killed on Monday as well.

The Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), which is not affiliated with any national Baptist organization, announced plans to protest at victims’ funerals only hours after 32 people were killed in the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. They also may protest at other events on the Virginia Tech campus.

The organization, founded and led by Fred Phelps, believes the United States has condemned itself to destruction by accepting homosexuality and other “sins of the flesh.” Phelps’ daughter, Shirley Phelps-Roper, said the Virginia Tech teachers and students who died on Monday brought their fate upon themselves by not being true Christians.

“The evidence is they were not Christian. God does not do that to his servants,” Phelps-Roper said. “You don’t need to look any further for evidence those people are in hell.”

Is this the same group that were protesting soldiers funerals? I believe they were from Kansas too.
Yeah, that's them

I don't understand why the cops can't prevent these freaks from doing this. They'll ban smoking, but not disrupting a funeral. UFB.

Yeah, I was right. This is the same group that went around passing out flyers with "Thank God for IEDS" at soldiers funerals. Their website has listings of funerals they are going to "protest". I say Thank God for the Patriot Riders.

I think those people like to protest just to protest. That's rediculous.
Their parents took away their bottles too soon and now they are maladjusted and socially inept.

I know the point you're attempting to make, but - as usual - you have picked the absolute worst example with which to make it.

That's forestal for ya. Did you notice his title for the post "Baptists......." Then his link uses the word Christian. Nothing but a lame attempt to dig at Christians. The headline just may lead you to think that all Baptists protest these funerals. Nothing could me further from the truth. This small group of radical shidheads needs to be dealt with. I'm sure they are protected under freedom of speech but if the media gives them no attention and the police lock them up for any stupid little infraction, maybe that will have some impact, who knows.

Watch it
Completely ignorant people like this who use the Bible as a breeding ground for hate are soooooooo clueless to the teachings of the Bible. It's so frustrating to hear them say such unfounded things. I just have to turn away from those stories and remind myself that their day to be judged will come. Otherwise, it makes my blood pressure go up 50 points. :smack:

In My Opinion
maybe freds group needs to be met with an equal sized group that will once and for all run them back to where they came from.

Get a jury to convict you for that

Excellent point - Phelps and his wandering band of fellow hatemongers do not represent Baptism or Christianity. The best I can say about them is that they're attention whores.
