BARE vs. BEAR.....

.....and PAIR vs. PEAR

My 3rd grade daughter has a spelling test tomorrow...we've been working on her spelling words the past two days. She is always a good speller and always gets A's...........but I cannot get her to remember that it's:

Bare....as in feet
Bear.....as in teddy
Pair....as in shoes
Pear...as in the fruit.

She keeps getting them mixed up. I even did a power point slide with clip art of a bear, bare feet, a pair of shoes and a pear. I thought maybe if she saw the word with the picture it would help her. I can ask her and she'll get them right. I'll ask her again 15 minutes later....she get's them confused. Any suggestions??

Can she remember that "bare" ends with an "e" as in f "ee" t?

And that anytime dad takes off a p "air" of shoes he has to "air" them out cuz they stink so bad?

Don't laugh... little tricks like that helped me.

Great advice guys thanks...we're going to give it another try!!

She loves birds....so the pair in the air will probably work!!
And even though she is a girl....like a boy...she thinks farting
and smelly feet are terribly funny. So the shoe example and
bird example should hit home.

I'll let you know how she does!

Way to go, BTE - for your daughter! If she keeps this up, we may have to incorporate her into the secret Johnny R. fan club w/honorary poster or something! j/k
