Base Access with a Motorcycle

Ok, just thinking out loud here....

In order to ride on base, you have to take the MSC course which allows you to get vehicle stickers. The stickers are the indicator to the gate guard that you have taken the MSC.

My admin came back from the badge office after attempting to get vehicle stickers for our company vehicles. He was led to believe, and I've heard it before too, that the base may do away with vehicle stickers.

If they do away with the vehicle stickers, how is the gate guard going to know if you took the MSC? What will stop you from entering the base? They going to make you pull out a slip of paper and show it each time you come thru? They could create a new sticker just for m/c, but then that would defeat the purpose of not putting identifiable stickers on vehicles.

Thoughts?

Right now the guard could care less about the MSC, they just look for a sticker. My guess is if they did away with them for cars you will still have to produce proof in some way on a bike. Sticker or card. Harassment is all it is. Not to mention discriminating against contractors (nothing new here) since we can't take the free one on base. Not that I'm saying we should get PX piviledges or anything, but when it comes to base access itself I think it's flat out BS. Crap, just the fact that you made it to gate 1 in one piece should prove you can ride anyway. Who cares if you can do a figure 8 in front of guard shack 1?

Spoke with the crack staff about this.......seems it would devolve down to, if you get pulled over on your bike, the nice officer may ask you to produce your card. Otherwise theres apparently no check. This is of course if they do decide to go with no stickers. which, as far as I know, has not been determined yet.

Ohoh, thanks for that info. Theres goes plan A if that all goes down.

Discrimination? Jeezus, when will you and yours figure it out? If you want the benefit then wear the uniform. In the mean time

That was my point. If they don't have to look for a sticker anymore, they will wave you thru. They won't care.

Thanx. and agree with highlighted above, just rumblings at this point. It was one of those, "Well, what if..." thoughts.

I have worn the uniform. Vietnam. Little bit old for it now and couldn't take the bs so got out when my time was up, ok? Plus did you miss the part where I said I didn't want servicemens benifits? I don't consider base access a benifit when they seem to not be able to function without contractors.

Will be annotated on the CAC card.

Gilligan, the course gets updated over time, and theres a cutoff after which you need a new course and card. Which you might need to produce if pulled over.

Do, where did you get that from? To the best of my knowledge, there is no way in the CACsoftware to make it print that on the card, and its against regs to put stickers on it. And, of course, that wouldnt work for the folks like retirees who might not have a CAC card.

NAVICP Told me base stickers.on bikes had to be color coded (Navy wide rule) to denote what year you had your BRC or ERC. Pay no never mind that my base stickers.were from a NAVY BASE!

They wanted me to register my bike there and put their colored stickers on the bike. I was curious what our local gate.guards would have said when I showed up with my. Colored.stickers (Orange)

But two questions
How does the Air Force do it, they don't use base stickers anymore?
Are retirees required to take the ERC/BRC to ride on base?

I'm going to have to whip out my CAC everytime I go on base?

What do you whip out now? Retired ID? No change. As far as what retirees are required to do, we fall into a grey area. The instruction doesn't mention us at all. It mentions civil servants, active, reserve, and contractors, but not retired folks.

......
So far I've taken the BRC and ERC riders course to satisfy their rules. When are the folks driving cars going to be required to take their drivers safety course to drive on base?

When they start getting injured in accident at the same proportional rates that bikers do.

I know, smart ass answer, and I'm the biggest proponent of drivers education that actually teaches how not to crash. But people on motorcycles have crash injury rates that are way out of proportion to their numbers.

When I rode on Andrews last year they checked my ID. Only one guard "recommended" I take the safety course.

Then why doesn't the State require it? It is clearly the Navy's motive to keep their sailors from getting hurt. Fine, but why involve Civil Service or contractors?
