Has anyone mixed their own bath salts?

I'm getting ready to play Barfa Stewart and go:elaine:up a batch of vanilla and lavender for myself and as gifts.

Where do you find fragrances besides Michaels? :flowers:

In My Opinion
Bed Bath and Beyond used to carry them.

no Im not a ###, I know someone else that used to mix up their own and thats where she bought the stuff.

I had no idea that the term for a chord of wood or a ciggarette in england was a censored word.
strange.

That actually sounds cool to do, I love the scent of Vanilla. Unfortunately, I wouldn't've thought to try something so original so I have no clue where to go. :frown:

Please give updates as to how you think it turned out and where you went to buy the supplies. :flowers:

A few years ago I was given an aromatherapy kit. It resembled, almost, an apothecary's kit, and it contained roughly 4 or so oils, salt, dried herbs and flowers, I think... I didn't use it as I was moving and it got roughed up in the move.

You might try doing a search on "Aromatherapy Bath Kit" and refine as you see fit. I started a search for you, but didn't really know where to go with it.

2 cups epsom salt
2 cups kosher salt
some baking soda to soften the water
I stirred that together well. Stirring is the secret.
I have a small dropper and gradually added 10 drops of lavender, 8 drops of vanilla and stirred and smushed until my arm fell off.
I switched arms and added about 10 drops of green food coloring for a pale green. I stirred and smushed until that arm fell off. I am typing with my toes.

It smells heavenly and don't forget to stir stir stir to dispense all the smellies and color.

Bottle, decorate and enjoy.

I used to order stuff from The San Francisco Herb Company when I would make my own potpourri. The Herb Lady is another place I've gotten fragrances from. They used to set up a booth at the Sugarloaf Craft Fairs in the fall but I don't know if they still do but they do mail order.

I can't think of any place locally that sells it.

Ooooh, I'll take one! Plus a bottle of Limoncello. :yay:

I'm not doing booze this year but maybe will try a batch of Limoncello again this winter. Grating the rind on all those lemons is a beyotch plus it has to sit for 30-60 days to get the flavor. I did like my stuff plus that creme stuff we had last week.

I just made a batch of pretty purple lavender salts. The neon food coloring has purple in the pack.

Thanks Jazz, for the sites. I am also thinking when I get near a Body Shop I can pick up some aromatherapy oils. :huggy:

packaging

Okay, I already wiped out Big Lots...I need suggestions for packaging. Large mason jars are fine but I want pretty, too.
My salts are 100% natural and pure (unlike me) and kosher :roflmao:

How about the bottles with the corks you can find in the craft section? They come in a variety of shapes and colors.

Package your bath salts or powdered milk baths in our salt jars, apothecary jars, acetate rounds, salt tubes, tin tie bags or cello bags.

Just some different ideas.

:yeahthat: Great idea, I loved making the sand bottles at the county fair where you mix all of these different colors to make a design. Though you won't be mixing colors I think that would be a great look.

A good thought is to make sure the bottles are easy to open with each use. Maybe the cork will have a metal pull handle or something on it. :flowers:

Morgie,

I didn't even see when you gave me the instructions. Thanks! :huggy:

One thing I learned...mix the salts in a large vessel and let sit open for a few days, stirring ocassionally to dry. Otherwise it makes a bath salt clump in a jar

Oh, that sounds easy and fun. :yay:
I've been getting the little arts and crafts kits for the boys from AC Moore and Wal-mart and they have been enjoying it. Made a few necklaces that others seemed to really like too. I will definitely do this next, some for decorations, some for gifts, and of course some for me.

And, thanks for adding in 10 drops of funny. :lmao:

Another good benefit, you get to work out all of the kinks before we try.
