(hey I have one named "dum dum"!)
You may want to get the vet to do a 12 hour check for passive transfer. I have had 2 in the last 2 years fail. If the suck reflex is low or desire to nurse is low from the beginning, you may need additional antibodies now. Unfortunately, the milk taken from your last mare tested low for antibodies (milk already coming in...we drew too late), and I don't have enough colostrum on hand from Wendy to make a difference. If your foal tested low for passive transfer, they can give him a dose of Seramune, and do antibiotics. With aggressive treatment, I saved one foal, but the other was not treated as aggressively and died a couple of weeks later. Just a thought for a preventative measure. I hope all is great with both of them!!
